Galatasaray University-Student Selection and Placement System (GSÜ-ÖSYS) is an exam held annually at Galatasaray University on the last Sunday of May in two consecutive stages. The first stage of the exam, which every candidate taking the GSÜ-ÖSYS exam must participate in, lasts 180 minutes and consists of 85 questions. At this stage, multiple-choice questions are asked from Turkish, History of the Turkish Revolution, Mathematics, French, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, and General History courses, and these questions are prepared according to the official curriculum of the Ministry of National Education. The second stage is conducted in two different sessions: Quantitative Sciences and Social Sciences. Each session lasts 90 minutes. Candidates considering departments affiliated with the Faculty of Engineering and Technology must take the Quantitative Sciences exam. In this stage, students are asked a total of 35 multiple-choice questions from Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry courses.
For any candidate taking the GSÜ-ÖSYS exam to have their exam result considered for placement in any department at GSÜ, they must first meet the ranking requirements related to the YKS (Higher Education Institutions Examination). Candidates who choose departments within the Faculty of Engineering and Technology must be among the top 25,000 candidates (those with scores above the corresponding placement score) in at least one of the Mathematics-Science (MF) 1, 2, 3, and 4 score types in the YKS ranking. The only exception to the YKS ranking requirement is for candidates who have completed secondary education in Turkey and are eligible to receive a French Baccalaureate. If these candidates hold a Baccalaureate in Science, they will be placed based solely on their GSÜ-ÖSYS scores and their preference ranking for the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, regardless of whether they meet the YKS ranking requirement.
The registration rights of candidates placed in a higher education program based on GSÜ-ÖSYS results are valid only for that examination period, and candidates who pass the exam will lose their rights if they do not complete their final registration within the foreseen period. Each candidate has the right to take the GSÜ-ÖSYS only once.
The final registration of students placed in the Department according to the YKS results and their department preference rankings is carried out by the Student Affairs Directorate on the dates determined and announced each year, in accordance with the principles determined by the Higher Education Council, ÖSYM and GSÜ Rectorate (Articles of the Higher Education Law No. 2547 regarding Education and Training and Entrance to Higher Education), and with the required documents.
Information regarding the YKS rankings of students admitted to the Industrial Engineering Undergraduate Program in recent years is presented in the table.
