Internship
This page provides brief explanatory information about summer internships. More detailed and up-to-date information can be found on the Faculty page under the Internships link.
General Information
Internships are practical work that students are required to do to reinforce their theoretical knowledge in practice. Internships are named as first and second groups and must be completed in the specified order. For Industrial Engineering Department students, the first internship is called a production internship, and the second internship is called a management internship.
Internships are carried out in medium-sized and large-scale industrial or service businesses. Students of the Industrial Engineering Department of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology cannot do their first group internships in service businesses. These businesses may be domestic or foreign, public or private sector. The first group internship should be 4 weeks (20 working days), and the second group internship should be 8 weeks (40 working days). Work on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays is not counted towards the internship period. However, in internships carried out in businesses where Saturday is considered a public working day, Saturday is included in the internship period. Multiple internships cannot be completed at the same business.
Mandatory Enrollment in Internship Courses
To ensure timely completion of internships, Industrial Engineering Department students must register for the compulsory course IND298 during their 4th semester course registration and the compulsory course IND398 during their 6th semester course registration. Students can only register for IND398 if they have successfully completed IND298.
Pre-Internship Process
Students undertaking internships must inform the Faculty Student Affairs Office of the company where they will be doing their internship by submitting an "Internship Application Form" by the date specified in the internship academic calendar. This form must be approved by the Faculty Internship Committee.
After the approval of the Internship Application Form, the student is obligated to fill out 3 "Compulsory Internship Forms," ??have them approved by the company, and submit them to the student affairs office at least 20 days before the start of the internship, along with 2 passport-sized photographs. The Compulsory Internship Form and Internship Application Form can be obtained from the Faculty Student Affairs Office. After submitting the Compulsory Internship Form to the student affairs office, the student can begin their internship at the company by receiving the internship evaluation document and the internship logbook approved by the Faculty.
Internship Process
The internship logbook is filled out in Turkish or French, depending on the company where the internship is conducted, using ink or a permanent marker.
Students interning at French or Turkish-French companies will fill out their internship logbooks in French and also prepare a one-page summary in Turkish. Students interning at Turkish companies will fill out their internship logbooks in Turkish and also prepare a one-page summary in French. Logbooks for internships conducted abroad can only be filled out in French or English, and in these internships, the one-page summaries are prepared in Turkish. The student is obliged to answer all relevant group internship questions during the internship period. In the internship logbook, the answers to the relevant group internship questions are given in order of question number. However, if the student cannot find the answer to any question at the company or if the company officials do not provide the necessary information, the student may choose not to answer the question, stating the reason, or may use their own knowledge, experience, and observations from the company to provide an answer. The student has the necessary sections of the internship logbook approved by the company officials. The first and last pages must be approved and stamped.
The intern evaluation document is completed confidentially by the company, approved, and placed in a sealed envelope. The name, title, and position of the approving company official must be clearly stated on the document. This document, along with the internship logbook, is sent to the Faculty by the company via mail or by the student. Post-Internship Evaluation Process
Internship logbooks are evaluated according to the criteria of "Organization" and "Content". The "Organization" criterion, weighted at 20%, includes the completeness of internship documents and signatures, and the completion of the internship logbook in the required format; the "Content" criterion, weighted at 80%, includes the meaningful and complete answers to the questions. The internship course success grade is calculated out of 100 and converted to a letter grade using the scale in Table 1.

Students who receive an "F" grade must complete the same internship at a different company and fill out their internship logbook the following year.
